3SC 'll not be relegated - Oladapo

Despite the team's precarious standing on the table, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) will not be relegated from the Globacom Premier League.

This optimism was expressed by defender, Olufemi Oladapo who boasted that the club will end the season in a comfortable position. Speaking moments after the Ibadan soccer lords slumped to a
0-1 loss to Akwa United in a match day 27 tie decided in Uyo, the former Flying Eagles player said he and his colleagues would put in whatever it takes to ensure the club survive the drop.

''It is quite disheartening that we are where we are on the log at the moment, but I am cocksure we will not relegated. ''Our main focus now is to secure as many points as possible in the remaining matches, both at home and away, thank God we have two straight home matches which we hope to win so as to leapfrog on the table,'' he stated.
Oladapo, a member of the home based Super Eagles squad, expressed worries that positive results have not been coming in for the team in spite of  the players' good performance
during matches.

''Honestly, I cannot really explain what is happening, our position on the log is not a true reflection of our performance, but we don't want to give excuses. As professional players, we have resolved to fight till
the end,'' declared Oladapo.

Sunday Tribune gathered that the assassins trailed the victim, simply identified as Emeka, who was said to be the owner of Emeka Super Markets located at Anazaonwu Street Onitsha, and shot him repeatedly.

The deceased who is also the owner of Orbit Hotels located along Nsugbe Road near 33 Housing Estate, was said to be returning from Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium after his morning exercise with two other people who sustained gunshot wounds from the attack of the assassins.

According to an eyewitness, the gunmen numbering about four (three men and a lady), said to be operating in a Toyota Seiana car, trailed the deceased who was driving with two other men from the stadium in his Toyota Corolla car with registration number KPP 11 AA, Anambra, and shot him dead at the spot.

The car had four bullet holes at the windscreen in front, three by the driver’s side and one by the passenger’s side, while the windscreen at the back was shattered by the bullet and a commercial bus heading to Onitsha Main Market which hit the car when the deceased lost control of the car as a result of the attack.

Court Cancels 2006 Census Results Of 14 Councils In Lagos

The National Census Tribunal sitting in Abuja has nullified the 2006 census results in 14 local government areas in Lagos state and ordered a recount.

The National Population Commission had put the total population figure of the state at 9 million.

Giving a background to the ruling of the Tribunal, the Attorney-General, Ade Ipaye recalled that following the census exercise conducted by the NPC nationwide from March 21 to 27, 2006, and more particularly in the various local government areas in Lagos state, a total population of 9,113,605 was declared for Lagos adding that a good number of residents from various communities within the state protested, prompting the filing of petitions by the state.

He noted that many informed commentators both within and outside the state, considered the figure far too low as the figure was far below what was realized by a shadow survey carried out by the State’s officials during the exercise which put the population of the state to at least 17.6 million.

The tribunal considered and passed judgements in all 19 cases, declaring null and void the census results in 14 of the cases.

The tribunal however, dismissed petitions filed on behalf of five Local Government Areas of Shomolu, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Mushin and Oshodi-Isolo on the ground that sufficient proof was not presented by the petitioners.
Briefing journalists in Lagos, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ade Ipaye, urged the NPC to urgently organise a recount.

EFCC Declares ex gov Nnamani aides wanted

Following the arrest warrant issued by Justice M. N. Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Lagos the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared the trio of Jude Benjamin Amanze, Chinelo Nwigwe and David Nwigwe wanted.

They are wanted by the anti-graft agency in connection with the case instituted against former governor of Enugu State, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani who is alleged to have diverted public funds and embezzled billions of naira when he held sway as governor of the state from 1999 to 2007.
Amanze who was the governor's special aide is alleged to have served as a conduit in siphoning over N514,833,564.60 (Five Hundred and Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred and Thirty Three Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Four Naira, Sixty Kobo) belonging to Enugu State government.

Investigation by the Commission revealed that a road construction contract awarded to one Chief Jacob Nwatu between 2002 – 2003 was not unexecuted. Yet, N514,833,564.60 was paid for the contract, which was traced to the Zenith Bank Account of Chief Nwatu.

Further investigations revealed that a sum of N350,000,000 was latter moved from this account into three Zenith Bank accounts operated solely by Jude Amanze. Amanze was also said to have warehoused other funds in the said Zenith Bank accounts which were disbursed either directly to or for the benefit of persons connected with the former governor, his companies or associates.

Efforts by the Commission to get Amanze and the two other suspects whose evidences are vital in the case to report to the Commission and answer questions have been unsuccessful. They are believed to have fled the country for some safe haven abroad.

The EFCC implores anybody having useful information as to their whereabouts to contact the Commission in its Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja offices or through these numbers: 09-4604620, 070-26350721,070-26350722,070-26350723,070-6350724, 070-26350725 ; or e-mail address: info@efccnigeria.org or the nearest Police Station.

Don’t be violent with opposition, engage them intellectually, Ajimobi tells Oyo people

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State (second right) flanked by his Special Adviser on Development and Intervention, Dr. Adeyemi Fajingbesi (right), the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle (third right) and other Islamic faithful at a Jumat Service held at Islamic Mission Mosque, Agugu Area, Ibadan on Friday

Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has called on the people of the state not to be violent with the opposition anytime they (the opposition) are launching unnecessary attacks on his administration.

Rather, he admonished the people to engage the opposition in an intellectual exchange by demanding from them what they did to impact positively on the lives of the people and to change the face of the state when they had the opportunity of presiding over the affairs of the state in the past.
The governor, while addressing Islamic faithful at a Jumat Service held at Islamic Mission Mosque, Agugu, Ibadan, also asked people to query the antecedents of those falling over one another to destroy his government.
``I am very much aware of the surreptitious moves by those who have turned themselves into the enemies of the people of Oyo State; those who have been carrying out sustained attacks on our administration.
``I want to appeal to you all not to be violent with them. What you should do is to ask those of them who had had the opportunity of presiding over the affairs of this state what they did to impact positively on the lives of the people when they were here.
``Let them know that Oyo State has moved from the level of violence, spurious name-calling and lies; right now in our state, we play issue-based politics where everyone will be called to question on his or her past performances and the impact they made while they were entrusted with administering the state. And for those who have never been there, let them come out and tell us where they are coming from, politically,’’ he said.
Governor Ajimobi x-rayed his performance since his assumption of office and expressed satisfaction that he had not disappointed the people of the state.
``One thing that usually gives us internal satisfaction is that even the worst enemies of our government have not failed to acknowledge the good work we are doing. But they know for sure that if they continue to amplify our good work, that will signal their political death,’’ he said.
The governor called on the people of the state to continue to support his administration so that it would continue to do more on the development of the state.
He also appealed to religious leaders to continue to pray for his administration, stressing that it was their prayers that had sustained his government so far.
The Chief Imam of the mosque, Alhaji Nasirudeen Titilope, thanked the governor for finding time out of his busy schedule to pray with them, saying that this had served as an encouragement to the Islamic faithful worshipping in the mosque.

Peugeot 308R concept for Frankfurt motor show

Peugeot 308R concept for Frankfurt motor show
The Peugeot 308R is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine
Peugeot will show a hot hatch version of its new family car, known as the 308R, at September’s Frankfurt motor show.
The concept car is powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine as used in the new Peugeot RCZ R. It produces 270bhp and 243lb ft of torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and Torsen differential.
Compared with a standard 308, the R’s ride height is lowered by 26mm, and the track widened by 30mm. The doors, wings, sills, side panels, bonnet and bumpers are all new for the concept car, meaning that only the roof and tailgate are carried over. Furthermore, the new panels are made from carbon-fibre in order to reduce weight.
The Peugeot rides on 19in alloy wheels, behind which are 380mm brake discs up front and 330mm at the rear.
The 308R will make its debut alongside the rest of the new Peugeot 308 range when the Frankfurt motor show opens to the world’s press on September 10.
