Meet the largest aircraft on earth

Meet the largest aircraft on earth

A U.S. Army mega aircraft – a hybrid of plane, helicopter, hovercraft and airship- is going civilian.
Designed by British design company Hybrid Air Vehicles for the U.S. military, this massive piece of next-gen tech can travel through the air at nearly 100 miles per hour.
At 302 feet, the Airlander 10 is bigger than a Boeing 747 and its new big brother in development will be bigger than a football field.  Airlander 10 can carry 10 tons of equipment and the company says these uber-blimbs will be able to circumnavigate the globe twice in one trip without landing.
Designed to meet military standards, Airlander works in extreme weather conditions and doesn’t need a prepared landing zone. In fact, it can land on challenging surfaces like water, sand, snow and ice – making it an excellent option for delivering cargo to remote locations in tough conditions.
With humans on board, it can stay aloft for about five days, but when it is unmanned it can stay aloft for weeks on end.
Army days
In 2010, Hybrid Air Vehicles began working on this Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle (LEMV) project for the U.S. Army with team lead Northrop Grumman. The objective was to achieve a mega surveillance aircraft that could spend days in the air on a single mission. Potential uses for the vehicle included cargo transport, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
One reason the military was exploring airships is because they have the potential to carry far heavier payloads, like sensors and cameras, than some Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), or drones. They can also loiter and hover persistently over a specific spot.
Before budget cuts waylaid the promising project in 2013, the LEMV (aka Airlander 10) underwent test flights.
HAV purchased the project back and plans to make it available for civilian applications.
It has already attracted interest from folks you might expect like oil and mining operations keen to find more efficient methods of transporting heavy cargo to remote corners of the world.
But the good news for folks is that they are considering making this military grade tech available for things like tourism - you could fly from Pole to Pole, hover over the Amazon rainforest or even spend days above Mayan ruins.
The project has recently been resuscitated with grants from the U.K. government and European Union, as well as other sources like a crowd funding campaign and private investors.  And it has also attracted more unexpected interest – like Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden who has personally invested and hopes to fly it around the world.
How does it fly?
The uber blimp combines aspects of fixed wing aircraft and helicopters with what the company calls “lighter-than-air technology.”
It uses helium to get off the ground and its envelope contains 1.34 million cubic feet of helium. The envelope’s skin has been designed to withstand small arms fire and is made from a polymer composite of Kevlar, Mylar, and Vectran.
Helium provides about 40 percent of the lift. And there are a total of four propellers with turbocharged V8 engines that run on diesel. Two are positioned at the back and two in the front.
The Airlander leverages the fuel to help take off and land as well as to power the propellers.
The cockpit can comfortably fit two people including the pilot in the current model.

Gov. Fayose
A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, declined granting an ex parte application seeking to stop impeachment moves against the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola.
The court sitting before Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, rather, ordered the defendants in the suit, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) factional Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to appear in court on April 16, to show cause why the order of interim injunction being sought by the plaintiffs, halting the impeachment proceedings, should not be granted.
The court only granted prayers contained in the ex parte application, relating to service of the court processes on the defendants.
Apart from Omirin and Justice Daramola, other defendants in the suit were the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The plaintiffs in the suit are the Speaker of the House of Assembly (described as being occupied by the Peoples Democratic Party factional speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele); Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola.
Counsel for the plaintiffs, Ahmed Raji, in the application dated and filed on April 7, 2015, urged the court to grant the interim injunction setting aside the impeachment notice already served on the governor and the deputy and also restraining the defendants from taking any further steps in the impeachment moves.
The lawyer argued that the act by Omirin to issue an impeachment notice and serve same on the governor and the deputy governor as speaker of the House of Assembly amounted to impersonating the incumbent speaker.
The plaintiffs had urged the court to grant the prayers and make the interim injunctions to subsist, pending the determination of their motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions seeking the same set of prayers.
Raji urged the court to grant the prayers “in the interest of justice, public order, peace and safety of the people of the state.”
The trial  judge, in his ruling, ordered the parties to appear in court to convince it why the plaintiffs’ prayers for interim injunction should not be granted.
Justice Mohammed ruled that “the order is hereby made directing the 1st to 4th defendants (Omirin, IGP, INEC and Ekiti CJ), to appear before this court on April 16 and show cause why the interim order sought by the plaintiffs via an ex parte motion dated April 7, 2015 should not be made by this court.”
The court granted leave to serve Omirin and Justice Daramola, who reside in Ekiti State, outside jurisdiction and also ordered that Omirin and the Ekiti State Chief Judge be served through advertisement in a national newspaper.
It also made a separate order that the Chief Judge be served with processes of court through the office of the Chief Registrar of of the Ekiti State High Court.
Justice Mohammed ordered that hearing notices be served on all the defendants and adjourned the matter till April 16.

Reasons why Oba Akiolu warns Igbo in Lagos !

Hi All I got this post that explains the reason behind the Oba of Lagos out burst but doesn't' justify it.
Forwarded as received: Dear Lagosians,
Yorubas are very decent and reasonable people. No other tribe will entertain on their land what is going on in Lagos.
Although we all condemn without reservations, the statement of OBA AKIOLU but let ask ourselves one important question, WHY WAS OBA AKIOLU SO ANGRY WITH IGBOS TO WARRANT SUCH AN OUTBURST?
My answers are as follows:
1. I WILL ELEVATE EZE NDIGBO TO THE STATUS OF OBA OF LAGOS - JIMI AGBAJE.
2. IGBOS WILL DETERMINE WHO RULES LAGOS- IFEANYI UBAH
3. LAGOS IS NO MAN'S LAND.- IFEANYI UBAH DURING TAN CAMPAIGN.
4. IGBOS DEVELOPED AND CONTROL LAGOS- JIMI AGBAJE DURING GEJ'S CAMPAIGN IN AKWA IBOM
5. WE MUST PRODUCE THE NEXT DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF LAGOS - EZE NDIGBO.
QUESTIONS TO OUR IGBO BROTHERS:
1. CAN THE OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT ANY OR ALL OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED?
2. CAN THE EMIR OF KANO ACCEPT THE SAME ....?
3. IS THERE ANY OTHER TRIBE IN ANY OF THE STATE CABINETS IN THE EAST?
4. CAN ANY TRIBE CLAIM ONITHSA OR ABA TO BE A NO MAN'S LAND?
5. CAN OBI OF ONITHSA ACCEPT THE ELEVATION OF SARKIN HAUSA IN ONITHSA TO OBI STATUS?
6. IF MAJORITY OF LAGOSIANS BELIEVE IFEANYI UBA DESERVE TO CHOSE THEIR GOVERNOR IN LAGOS, SO BE IT.
While we condemn the outburst of our revered monarch, it is also wrong for our brothers from across the Niger to provoke him.
JK may be okay, but can PDP be ever OK for us???
Ponder on these pride by atohunrinwa to fe gbale lowo omo onile....Yoruba ronu !!!
I believe JK will make a good but my bias is towards APC for continuity of the great work started by Tinubu

Buhari, OBJ meet in Lagos

Buhari, OBJ meet in Lagos

Nigeria’s president-elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, met with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, on Tuesday.
This is the first time both leaders would be seen in public after the March 28 presidential election.
Obasanjo played a key role in the emergence of Buhari, as he received the campaign team of the then opposition party at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun State, despite complaints from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although he did not openly campaign for Buhari, Obasanjo refused to support the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Buhari was in Lagos to campaign for Akinwunmi Ambode, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead Saturday’s election and had since left for Imo State to solicit support for Rochas Okorocha, governor of the state, who is seeking re-election.

Is anything wrong with Oba Akiolu's statement ? By wale ojo Lanre

GOD BLESS OBA RILWAN AKIOLU !
I have read a lot of comments and responses to the statements of Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the paramount king of Lagos, a Yoruba land which accommodates all nationalities in Nigeria and from the entire world.
Lagos has a rich history of the exploits of its Monarchs defending the territorial integrity inherited from their fore fathers whenever there is any strong attempt at appropriating the rich Yoruba territory. This of course always cultivate to them unpleasant experience, personal loses , curtail of their fundamental rights , abuses and scorning . But at the end Lagos Oba of Lagos always achieved their aim of preserving the territorial integrity of their dear land and force the intruder to bow to the norm and custom of the land.
Monarchs all over the world are known for their sheer protectionism of their territories and pedigree inheritance. Hence they go miles at ensuring that their influence and territorial majesty is not only tampered with .
Thus, I do not see anything wrong in what Oba Akiolu said except the tone and manner of delivery.
Any Oba who allowed his territory to be matched upon or his influence curtailed is not fit on the throne while any kabiyesi who failed to defend the property of his fore fathers has no business on the throne.
With what is going on in Lagos, I don’t expect less from Oba Akiolu for “a landlord who watches his compound being taken over by tenants will one day be ejected by the tenant”
Lagos is a Yoruba land and that is the truth. Everything must be done at protecting the Yoruba value , culture , property there in so as not to be taken over by settlers , visitors or aliens whose have irredentist tendencies . Just like Onitsha is an Igbo land which the Obi must do everything possible at preventing any of the ethnic group in having upper hand in that land.
A true King of Lagos will not just because Lagos accommodates all Tom , Dick and Harry allow the settlers take over what rightly belong to the sons of the soil by the settlers particularly when the settlers are going about flaunting that “they are more in population than the indigenes and control commerce of the land “ .
So, Oba Akola’s reaction and response to me is called for, justified and reasonable except his furious manner of expression and the seemingly threat of ‘sweeping to the Lagoon ‘ .
Oba Akiolu did not ask for much. He has an interest and believe as the paramount King of Lagos , settlers there in must be able to support his interest . He must be able to defend Lagos, protect the political interest of the city and the heritage.
I strongly believe in one Nigeria but I will not against any situation that can lead to the development of a State of Biafra or Oduduwa Republic and The Islamic State of Arewa.
The USSR of yesterday is many countries today after many years of existing as a nation. Sene-Gambia is two countries now; Timor is out of Indonesia and may others
We should not only view Oba Akola’s opinion as unnecessary but sieve it through the prism of his duty as a Monarch and the protection of the values of nationalities within a contrapted republic.
Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, God bless you

Fayose will reply to impeachment notice – PDP

Fayose will reply to impeachment notice – PDP

The national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has said Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State will reply to the impeachment notice allegedly served him by members of the State House of Assembly.
But the party said the notice must be properly served on the embattled governor.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, stated this while answering questions from journalists at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Metuh, however, said it was disheartening that the members of the State House of Assembly whose tenure would expire soon, were bent on causing crisis in the state with their action.
He said, “Fayose would reply accordingly to the impeachment notice if the lawmakers follow due process.
“The governor will respond accordingly when they (lawmakers) do it properly.
“But why are these lawmakers, who have less than one month to leave, in a hurry to sack their governor?
“They have grown wings as soon as the result of the Presidential election was announced. It is immoral and undemocratic for a group of 19 lawmakers to put a state in chaos.”
He appealed to the President-Elect, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), to intervene in the crisis rocking the state in order to show that “he is truly a born again democrat.”

Where is Patience Jonathan ?

Presidency silent on Patience Jonathan’s whereabouts

Mrs. Patience Jonathan
The wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has not been seen in public since President Goodluck Jonathan lost the March 28 presidential election to Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) of the All Progressives Congress.
The President had last Tuesday conceded defeat and called Buhari on the telephone when it became clear from the results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission that he had lost his re-election bid.
Some dignitaries including serving and former government officials had visited Jonathan to commend him for conceding defeat and solidarise with him on his loss.
One of the visitors had told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan also received visitors inside the President’s official residence same day.
“After meeting the President in the new Banquet Hall located within the premised of his office, I also visited the First Lady inside the President’s residence before leaving. She was in high spirit when I met her,” the former government official said.
But since then, the President’s wife had not been seen in public.
She did not attend the Good Friday service held inside the Aso Villa Chapel with her husband neither did she attend the Easter Sunday service inside the same chapel.
Mrs. Jonathan and the President’s mother, Eunice, had always been accompanying Jonathan to such services.
The last time she was seen in public was penultimate Saturday when she and her husband voted at their polling unit in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
While many believed however that she must have been too devastated by her husband’s electoral loss to appear in public so soon, our correspondent’s investigation however showed that Mrs. Jonathan might have travelled out of the country.
A Presidency source who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan travelled to the United Kingdom during the week to sort out some domestic issues.
“She is in UK. She may use the opportunity of the trip to visit her children,” the source said.
President’s wife would come back to the country.
Mrs. Jonathan’s spokesman, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, did not pick the calls made to his mobile telephone line on Monday.
Adewuyi did not also reply a text message sent to him on the mater.
It will be recalled that Mrs. Jonathan had during one of the presidential rallies she organised ahead of the elections claimed that Buhari would send her to jail if he was elected.

Oba Akiolu Recants, Woos  Igbo Voters

Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos has recanted his alleged threat against the Igbo in Lagos, that they would drown in the lagoon if they failed to vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the monarch by Chief Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, Opeluwa of Lagos, the monarch said: “My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.
“Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu.  At the meeting the visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbo in Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighborliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.”

Chief Ajose further stated: “Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to the growth of investments in Lagos. He gave the assurance that he is not disturbed or angry with South-East and South- South votes for President Jonathan as perceived by the Eze Ndigbos. The Oba thereafter called on the Igbo chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier promised.
“He assured them of his continued support  and assistance where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and bitter kola and pouring of libation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per tradition.
“Oba Akiolu stated further that the Igbo people have not betrayed the throne. Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people. Lagos has done so much to make the Igbo comfortable and to prosper. For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding. The Oba of Lagos prays that the lagoon and the throne will continue to bless and protecQt all those who reside and visit Lagos.
“Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon. The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the need for unity and understanding when you do business in an environment and in this case when you live and do business in Lagos.
“Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and prosperity for all its inhabitants.”

•President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari (right) with former President Olusegun Obasanjo during their meeting this morningPresident-elect, retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari appeared in Lagos today to add pep to the governorship campaign of the All Progressives Congress, declaring that Lagos is too cherished by his party to be lost to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Buhari who had earlier in the day visited former president Olusegun Obasanjo  warned Lagos residents not to be on the wrong side of the centre, stressing that since the All Progressives Congress, APC, has won power at the centre, it behoves on them to vote for the party so that Lagos can continue to do well.
Buhari, who gave this warning at a mega rally held at Coker Orile,  on Tuesday, appealed to Lagosians to vote en masse for the APC on Saturday because Lagos is too important to be left on the wrong side of the centre. Coker Orile is thickly populated by Igbo Lagosians and it is likely that the rally was held there to swing  Igbo sentiments to the APC candidate, Akin Ambode.
•President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari (right) with former President Olusegun Obasanjo during their meeting this morning
“Vote for APC candidates on Saturday. Ensure you vote APC. Lagos is doing well and we are now at the centre. I have a lot of respect for Fashola because he is hardworking and committed to the state. No doubt, Lagos is a mini-Nigeria. I want you to vote for continuity in Lagos.
“Tell your neighbours, tell everyone to bury the hatchet and vote for APC,” he stated.
The President elect, told the audience that Lagos is too important to be lost by the All Progressives Congress, promising also to refund the N51billion that the Federal Government is owing the Lagos State government over road repairs.
After his speech, he presented the Lagos APC governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, to the crowd by raising his hand.
Before arriving at the rally, Buhari had a meting  at the Lagos House in Marina Governor Babatunde Fashola and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
On Buhari’s entourage were Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and Senator Chris Ngige.
Earlier, the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had appealed to the APC supporters not to heed the promises made by chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos calling them liars.
He enjoined them to vote for APC candidates on Saturday.

Jigawa dep gov defects to APC

Deputy Governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud
The Deputy Governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud, has defected to the All Progressives Congress. But the state Peoples Democratic Party stated that he was expelled for alleged anti-party activities.
This was contained in a statement by the PDP chairman of Galagamma ward in Gumel, Jigawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Kafinta, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Dutse.
The chairman said the decision to expel Mahmud was taken during a stakeholders meeting held in his ward.
Reports had earlier indicated that Mahmud had dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress, which won the March 28 election in the state.
Kafinta did not say when the stakeholders meeting, which ratified the expulsion, held.
The ward chairman alleged that the deputy governor “sabotaged PDP” during the recent National Assembly election.
He added that the Gumel Local Government Area headquarters of the party, had endorsed the expulsion.
Efforts by NAN to get the comments of the deputy governor on the matter failed as he neither picked a call nor replied a text message sent to him.
