The Ondo State Government has picked Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December
2015 for the hosting of the annual Mare Mountain Climbing Festival , in Idanre
, Ondo State .
The State Commissioner for Information , Mr Kayode Akinmade , who
superintend over the Tourism Ministry
made the announcement last week while
playing host to some journalists in his office
Mr Akinmade disclosed that Mare has come to stay and that Governor Segun
Mimiko was committed at ensuring the
sustainace and visibility of the festival
and all it’s entrapping .
He pointed that Mare has metamorphosed
from a mere mountain climbing Festival to an economic endeavour which
mobilizes and stimulate wealth , development and growth
Hence , “ Governor Mimiko has put all hands on the decks at making sure
that this year’s Mare festival , will be bigger , better and best “
Mr Akinmade revealed that statistics generated from the previous Mare
Festival pointed out an increase in commercial activities and lump sum of money
injecting into the system .
“ From statistics obtained from the past Mare , we have been able to see
the contribution of this festival to the economy of the state , Idanre and it’s
environ and Nigeria in general “
Mr Akinmade said that ,”though the budget for Mare this year is
a reflection of the current economic reality but it will not affect the line up
as expected as we have been able to
adjust and amend possible areas that needed such for profitability and
efficiency “
Mr Akinmade also disclosed that both local and foreign mountaineers
and athletes were expected to participate in this year’s festival competitions while Olamide will be the leading
artistes for the event. .
