Use Mobile Phone While Driving And Go To Jail, FRSC Warns
A newly adopted strategy by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) will ensure that any person caught using their mobile handsets while driving, would no longer be fined as was the practice but immediately charged to court and jailed.
The Corp Marshal of FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka also added that other previously fined offences like speed driving, dangerous overtaking and overloading would now attract court action.
Mr. Chidoka, who was speaking at a press conference in Abuja, said the new measures are part of a newly launched campaign to bring down the rising incidences of road crashes in the country.
The policy also mandates commercial bus drivers to install speed limit devices in their vehicles so they henceforth should not exceed 100km per hour.
