DSS arrests Bayelsa ex-governor Sylva
Operatives of the Department of State Services on Friday arrested a former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva over unknown offences.
He was said to have been whisked away by DSS personnel to an unknown location.
But when contacted, the Deputy Director, DSS, Public Relations, Marilyn Ogar, denied knowledge of the incident.
“Why would he (Sylva) be picked up? I am in the office, I don’t have such information with me,” she said.
The Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, however confirmed Sylva’s arrest and said he would issue a statement shortly.
But Mohammed had yet to issue a statement as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the DSS had re-assured Nigerians of adequate security wherever they may reside before, during and after the elections.
The service said it had come to its knowledge that people are relocating to their states of origin in anticipation of violence during the polls.
Ogar in a statement warned those spreading falsehood or rumours of violence to desist from such acts, adding that those fomenting trouble would not escape the law.
The statement read, “It has come to the knowledge of security agencies that people are relocating to their states of origin in anticipation of violence during the forthcoming general elections in the country.”
