LASUN, House Rep Deputy Speaker DECRIES RATE OF UNEMPLOYMENT
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yusuf Suleiman Lasun yesterday decried the rate of unemployment in the country, promising that through robust legislation the new leadership of the House would do everything to reduce the spate of unemployment in the country.
The deputy speaker noted that the only way to reduce poverty in the country is by providing employment for the people.
Rt Honourable Lasun who stated this when the Osun State Indigenes in the National Assembly paid him a courtesy call in his office at National Assembly said that the 8th Assembly leadership of the House would create job for the unemployed youths through robust legislation.
According to him, "Since the capital was moved out of Lagos, it is very difficult to get employment for our people. It is horrible to hear that people collect money from young graduates to get employed.
He particularly made reference to the last immigration job interview exercise, where some of applicants lost their lives while trying to secure employment after paying money to get the form.
He however promised to try his best to ensure that sizeable number of unemployed youths are gainfully employed, stressing that providing jobs for the youths will go a long way in their lives rather than giving them stipends.
Earlier in his speech, the president of the association Mr Oluremi Ajibade led the Osun Indigenes explained that they came to congratulate the new deputy speaker on his election victory and to pledge their support for him.
He said that his victory is not only for the people of Osun state but for the entire yoruba race, adding that there is need to give him the needed support for him to succeed in office.
According to him, "it is high time the Yorubas come together and unite so that meaningful development could be achieved in the region".
