2,000 years of history wiped off the face of the Earth: Satellite images prove ISIS extremists have flattened ancient Syrian temple in Palmyra amid fears the rest of the city will follow
The temple (inset) is thought to have been blown up on Sunday, after ISIS extremists spent a month laying explosives around the ancient wonder. In the first of the images (left), taken in June, the small building can just be made out. In the second (right), taken this week, all that can be seen is a mass of grey - the rubble left behind after the explosion. A UN spokesman confirmed it has been 'flattened'.
