Angharad Colwell and Wesley Walters were left with these shocking injuries as they walked home in Tredegar on Boxing Day
These are the horrific injuries suffered by a couple who were brutally attacked as they walked home after spending Boxing Day with their family.
Wesley Walters and his girlfriend Angharad Colwell, both 35, were rushed to hospital with facial injuries following the assault.
Angharad’s younger sister, 26-year-old Natasha Colwell, who was with the couple, was also attacked.
The three had spent the day with family and were walking home to Cefn Golau through Tredegar town centre when Wesley said they were assaulted by two teenagers.
Recalling the incident recycling loader Wesley said the attack came out of the blue.
He said: “We had just got to the pet shop in Tredegar when some boys shouted that I’d said something to them. Next thing I knew, one is giving me a kicking. I was out cold and I was kicked in the head while I was unconscious.
“My girlfriend tried to defend me and got punched in the face. Her sister also tried to help and ended up with a broken nose.”
A driver passing by stopped his car and called the police before phoning Wesley’s parents who took them to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.
Wesley received four stitches to his head and suffered a split lip and cracked teeth. His girlfriend sustained a broken cheekbone and may need surgery in the New Year. Her tear duct was also torn in one eye.
Angharad’s sister Natasha received further hospital treatment for a broken nose,WalesOnline reports.
“It was shocking to be honest. I’m a grown man, what’s happened to me has happened, but for someone to do that to a woman is gutless and spineless,” an emotional Wesley said.
“Angharad has a heart of gold and would never hurt anyone. She’s completely shaken up. It makes me feel terrible because I was out cold and couldn’t defend her.”
“They need to be caught and convicted,” Wesley said.
“We were in the wrong place at the time but there was no need for it. If they are trying to make a name for themselves, it’s the wrong way of going about it.
“If they aren’t stopped then they could do the same to someone else.”
A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: “We are investigating an altercation that occurred on Commercial Street, Tredegar, at about 11.25pm on Friday, December 26.
“Three people, a 35-year-old man, and two women aged 26 and 35, all from the Tredegar area, were assaulted by two men and received facial injuries. Two of the victims, the 35-year-old man and woman, went to Nevill Hall Hospital.
