Thieves steal £50,000 after tunnelling under petrol station to get to cash machine
A gang of thieves stole up to £50,000 from a cash machine after tunnelling underneath a convenience store.
The burglars burrowed underneath the Tesco Express on Whitworth Road, Rochdale – causing £2,000 of damage – and removing cash cassettes from the ATM.
And Greater Manchester Police say the gang may have made off with up to £50,000.
‘There was a tunnel dug under the ATM and the thieves effectively wanted to burgle the contents of the machine,’ a Tesco spokesperson told theManchester Evening News.
‘We are helping police with their investigation going forward.’
The theft took place on 18 March and was reported the following morning
