2 trapped, drowned in well in Ibadan
TWO yet-to-be-identified men, on Sunday, died in a well at NIPCO fuel station on the Sango-Eleyele road, Ibadan.
The incident, according to an eyewitness, occurred around 8.00 a.m. when one of the victims, who was said to be a bricklayer, got trapped in a well he was assigned to repair.
About 30 minutes after he had drowned, no respite came until the second victim, who was said to be his father , came and decided to rescue him by entering the well, but unfortunately died in the process.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, explained that a Hausa who had earlier attempted to rescue the first victim turned back immediately he entered the well .
The refusal of the Hausa man was said to have infuriated the second victim who decided to descend into the well ignoring pleadings against such a move from the bystanders .
After waiting for some minutes and no response from him , there was fear that he too had been trapped and died . .
It was the members of the Oyo State Fire Service who arrived later to evacuate the corpses from the well and handed them over to the policemen who were around.
None of the family of the victims were around as of press time when the corpses were taken to Sango police station.
