Allah De: A Rare Breed - Mimiko



Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has described   late veteran  Journalist Alhaji Alade Odunewu, whose death occurred yesterday as a rare breed among his peers and  his  satirical style  of writing  incomparable.

In his condolence message to the family of the late Journalist and the  media , Governor Mimiko said” no doubt we have lost  a rare gem and an exemplary  journalist in Allah De.

“This is no doubt a great loss to the nation, the media, we his admirers and his family”
In  the  message made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, Mimiko stressed that in his life time" Alhaji Odunewu exhibited the best of  the journalism profession through his lucid but satirical writings  as amplified especially through  his popular column.

Mimiko said the contribution of “Allah De to the Journalism profession can not be over emphasized considering the confessions of many accomplished journalists who have at one time or the other worked with him and benefited  from his  wealth of experience.

"Alhaji Odunewu through the practice of journalism blazed the trail in professionalism, was an icon in terms of sensitivity to national cohesion and development and a worthy role model in mentoring and encouraging younger Nigerians to be finicky in whatever they do. He was thorough in his writings, deep

in his views and convincing in his logic.  His departure at a ripe age of 85, ought to be celebrated because he lived his life in full." Mimiko said.

The Ondo Governor, recalling his visits to Ondo State during the Nigeria Media Merit Award said, the late Odunewu had an infectious disposition to people-oriented changes and was encouraging of the modest efforts of his government.

"Alhaji Odunewu it will be recalled was generous in his appreciation of our efforts and liberal in offering practical and credible suggestions on what others things to be done to impact on the common man," the statement read.

Mimiko expressed his government's condolence on the great loss particularly coming at the time of the Ramadan. He prayed for the repose of his soul and for the strength of The Lord for his survivors.
