Critics of Ajimobi’s urban renewal programme ignorant, mischievous – Cleric

A renowned Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Muideen Ajani Bello, has described critics of the urban renewal programme of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State ignorant and mischievous.
The cleric, who stated this while delivering a sermon at the 10th Azeem Gbolarunmi Annual Ramadan Lecture held at Lekan Salami Sports Complex Adamasingba, urged them to desist from the act the interest of the state.
``I make bold to say that those criticizing the urban renewal programme of Governor Ajimobi are either mischievous or lacking in the knowledge of developmental process,’’ he said, urging the governor not to be deterred in his commitment to the overall development of the state.
The cleric also commended Governor Ajimobi for the construction of Mokola flyover bridge and other massive infrastructural development in the state, saying the governor had continued to follow the path of sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo in infrastructural development and people’s wellbeing.
``After what Chief Obafemi Awolowo did in terms of development in the old Western Region, the next person to follow his footstep is Governor Ajimobi. His name will be written in gold in the history of Oyo State,” he remarked.
The Islamic preacher advised that the ongoing road dualisation be extended to the interior parts of Ibadan city and that the weekly environmental sanitation exercise be sustained.
He also stressed the need for government to continue to fight against indecent dressing and immoral behaviour among the youth.
In his remarks, Governor Ajimobi pledged to use his position as governor to serve the people of the state to ensure improved development through the provision of infrastructural facilities in all parts of the state.
``My prayer is that I want to use my position as governor to better the lots of the people whether for four years or eight years, if it pleases God.
``Although the popular saying is that Ibadan people do not serve a governor twice, however, since I am an Ibadan man, I am serving the people and not the people serving me.
``I am ready to dedicate my life to the service of the people as many times as possible for the development and progress of Oyo State,’’ Governor Ajimobi said.
