A man has been accused of stabbing and strangling his mum to death during a brutal attack at her home.
Police arrested Alex McDonald, 27, after they found the body of Catherine McDonald, 57 at the property in Norton Fitzwarren, Taunton, Somerset.
Her employers had raised the alarm when she failed to turn up at work. Ms McDonald had been stabbed and asphyxiated.
Alex Mcdonald was charged with murder, and appeared before Taunton Deane Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
McDonald, who did not enter a plea and spoke only to confirm his name, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Exeter Crown Court tomorrow.
Catherine's parents paid tribute to their "dear daughter" and asked to be allowed to grieve in privacy.
In a family statement they said: "News has just been brought to us about the death of our daughter Catherine McDonald.
"It can never be easy to receive such information but to find out that a loved one's life has been ended in such circumstances, makes it all the harder to bear.
"Catherine was a dear daughter; we will miss her greatly and are working with the police to bring a speedy conclusion to their investigation.
"As a family we would ask the public to contact the police with any information that might assist, no matter how small or insignificant you might think it is."
