Abdul-Aziz Aliyu, a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State, as well as his brother, Salmanu Aliyu, lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, according to family sources.
The bereaved family, who spoke with journalists in Kano, said the accident occurred along Jere Town of Kaduna State while the duo was returning from Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The late politician was just 36 years old when he died, Abubakar Aliyu, a family member said adding that a day before the accident, the late APC aspirant was in Lagos for an official appointment, but stopped over in Abuja because his flight was cancelled as a result of bad weather.
He was then joined by his younger brother, who, coincidentally, was in Abuja for an engagement and they both decided to travel by road.
The family member said the late politician’s son, Omeiza, spoke with his father around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday few minutes before the ill fated journey.
“We received the shocking and sad news of his demise from samaritans at the scene of the accident,” the announcer said on Sunday, he said adding that a report received by the family showed that none of passengers in the car they were travelling in survived.
The victims have been given mass burial at a location at Jere town, Abubakar Aliyu said.
Father of the victims, Jimoh Aliyu, said he accepted the incident as an act of God and a fulfilment of destiny.
He said despite the terrible incident, he remained grateful to God jus as he advised his son’s supporters to continue with their lives.
