MOSCOW, Russia - Russia will tighten its visa regime for Muslims and will review visas already given to Muslims irrespective of their nationalities, reported Dispatch News Desk (DND) from Moscow.The decision was taken on February 8 at a special meeting of Russian security departments where Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly criticized the work of the Russian Interior Ministry. According to Russian media, Putin was reviewing work of the ministry in connection with reforms that were initiated by the department, at the time former President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, who is now Prime Minister of the country. The main objectives of the reform were to improve the efficiency of law enforcement agencies to fight terrorism, corruption, and improve the image of law enforcement.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Presidential administration, the State Duma, the Federation Council, the heads of the FSB, the Federal Drug Control Service, the Prosecutor General, Ministry of Emergencies, the Investigative Committee, and other ministries and departments.
In response to this special meeting and instructions from the Russian President, a crackdown against suspected terrorists, mostly Muslims, has started all over the country. Special operations have begun and several Muslims belonging to the United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and an Egyptian citizen, and a citizen of Afghanistan, were arrested in St. Petersburg. Around 271 people were arrested and brought to the Central Investigation Department.
“Ten detainees found documents with evidence of forgery, 20 individuals have no documents. Six of the detainees are to be deported out of Russia,” confirmed a DND correspondent.
