For killing Snake, Community Beats Up Pastor, Demands N54,890 Appeasement Rites
The Umuoji community in Idemili North
Local Government Area of Anambra State have allegedly beaten up a man of
God, Reverend Jude Chibueze, and sealed off his church for killing a
snake. Chibueze, according to news portal,
www.informationng.com, said
the snake stormed his house at night when members of his family were
already sleeping. He said he heard his children screaming and rushed
there to find a snake lying where his children had been sleeping.
Chibueze said he killed the snake and threw its remains in a nearby
bush, but was surprised when some members of the community stormed his
house, alleging that he had desecrated the land by killing the snake,
which is regarded as their god. The reverend said he was beaten up
mercilessly, and given a list of items amounting to N54,890 which the
community members said he should buy to appease their god.
