 SOCIAL SECURITY : EKSG SPENDS N2BILLION ON MONTHLY STIPEND FOR THE ELDERLY.
 
  Ekiti State Government has expended about two billion naira (N2B) so far on Social Security scheme for the elderly citizens in the state.
 
  The State Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Human Capital Development, Mr. Oluwole Ariyo dropped the hint at a forum inAdo-Ekiti.
    Mr. Ariyo said that government spends an average of One hundred million naira (N100M) monthly on the Scheme under which about 19,270 elderly people receive a monthly stipend of N5, 000 each.
 
  The Commissioner stressed the commitment of Governor Kayode Fayemi to the welfare of the elderly in the state in line with the Yoruba culture and assured that the scheme would be continuously reviewed to accommodate all contemporary qualified elderly citizens.

    Noting that the impact of the scheme has spread to the nooks and crannies of the state, Ariyo said that the programme is in fulfilment of the campaign promises of the Governor to provide for the elderly.

    The Commissioner who said the scheme is a right of the aged in the state and not a privilege, assured that the selection process of
beneficiaries is without political bias.
