Lawyer Urges FG To Establish Tourism Practitioners Registration Council

Mr Gbenga Ajayi, a Lagos-based legal practitioner, has urged the Federal Government to set up a tourism practitioners registration council to regulate the activities of practitioners.
Ajayi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos that the sector had been infiltrated by quacks due to the absence of a regulatory body.
He expressed a strong belief that setting up a regulatory body would help to curb activities of illegal operators in the sector.
``Government needs to set up a tourism practitioners registration council of Nigeria as it is done in other professions.
``This is to instil discipline and maintain high ethical code of conduct for the industry.''
He urged tour operators and travel agents in the country to exhibit professionalism in their practice because unwholesome practice was capable of eroding the efforts of genuine stakeholders.
``Illegal operators had defrauded many travellers, therefore, it is necessary to checkmate them and cleanse the industry, ‘’ Ajayi said.
He also advised tourism practitioners to maintain good moral conduct in the industry. (NAN
