A schizophrenic killed his lover and torched the car containing her body after coming off his medication.

Mentally ill Damien Dinobewei punched and strangled mother-of-one Tia Kounota before driving her corpse around Birmingham and setting fire to the pink Audi in Erdington.

The city's crown court heard the Stirchley 34-year-old was in a "florid" state, having stopped taking medication prescribed for his paranoid schizophrenia.

Dinobewei had previously admitted a charge of manslaughter.

Passing sentence, Judge James Burbidge QC told him: "Whatever was the spark or cause of the disagreement ultimately does not matter.

"You launched an attack upon her, albeit that no bones were broken, with sufficient ferocity to render her unconscious.

"Mercifully it appears, because of the lack of carbon monoxide in her lungs, she was dead before you carried out this dreadful act.

"The most significant aggravating feature is you attempt to dispose of the body as you did.

"This was a gross defilement."

The judge sent Dinobewei to a secure hospital indefinitely.

Friends of 27-year-old Miss Kounota, who had a seven-year-old daughter and was training to be a social worker at Birmingham City University, reacted with anger at the sentence.

Writing on the Mail's Facebook page, he said: "The guy wants releasing from custody with all of Tia's friends and family informed of the date and let us decide his punishment.

"He stole a friend, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunty and he gets kept in a very comfy secure unit.

"What a joke. Miss you every day Tia."

Mark Heywood, prosecuting, said Miss Kounota's mother described her as someone with a "huge heart" but who could be easily led.

She had been in a relationship with Dinobewei for several years and he could be "volatile and controlling towards her".

Mr Heywood said the killer had been discharged from the Reaside mental health clinic in Rednal and was staying at a rehabilitation unit.

Miss Kounota was living at a friend's home in Halesowen and arranged to meet Dinobewei on July 22 last year.

Mr Heywood said a neighbour heard screams and looked out at the car park.

"She saw a muscular man dragging a woman by her hair and punching her repeatedly.

"Tia was screaming very loudly and appeared really distressed."

According to the Brimingham Mail, another neighbour saw Dinobewei push the victim into the Audi.

The resident said he saw her kick out for 20 seconds before she became motionless.

Dinobewei sped off and was spotted at a number of locations as he bought petrol at a garage and drove first towards the city centre and then Erdington.

He finally parked the Audi in The Gardens, where witnesses saw him get out carrying a petrol can.

Mr Heywood said: "He started to do something that they could not clearly see behind the driver's door.

"Moments later the car burst into flames and the defendant made his way off."

Dinobewei was arrested nearby.

Mr Heywood said firefighters only discovered Miss Kounota's body after they put out the blaze because it had been "inverted" in the vehicle with her head resting in the foot well.

He said the likely cause of death was blunt force trauma, with compression of the neck, but she may have survived for up to 30 minutes before she died.

David Crigman QC, defending, said: "They had a row which degenerated into a physical struggle.

"He punched her and held her in the area of the neck.

"She must have lost consciousness.

"Instead of trying to save her he panicked and drove off and made a crude attempt to save himself."

While speaking to Punch Newspaper, Mrs. Wada who is currently married to another top millionaire revealed that she has no fond memories of her ex-husband, Fani Kayode.

The woman who had three daughters for the politician also said that their marriage didn’t last long as presumed by people.

“As a young girl, if anybody had told me my marriage would break up, I wouldn’t have believed it. That is why even after three children, I knew I would remarry. I don’t know if it is that love of being a wife or to run a home. Whichever, I love being married. I have no fond memories of ex-husband, Femi Fani-Kayode, except having my daughters, as I am sure he would say same if asked.

“What people do not seem to realise is that we were together for only a very short while. The marriage itself lasted less than three years. The fact that I have three daughters makes it seem longer, but I left just when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter,” she said.

She however disclosed that what attracted her to the lawyer was his aspiration towards his career.

“It was a long time ago but I think at the time, all the men I knew were clubbing like I was but he was already serious in politics. He was a national youth leader of his party and the proposal was very direct as he said, ‘I am in politics and I need a homemade” She revealed.

A 31-year-old indigene of Delta State, Michael David, who reportedly murdered the mother of his son and subsequently reported himself to the police for arrest, has confessed that his actions was the handiwork of the devil.

The suspect was involved in a fight with the victim, Oyinyechi Dennis, and allegedly stabbed her to death at Ojoku area of Lagos.

It was learned that Michael, a carpenter, was scandalizing and making ugly remarks about Onyinye in their environment which led to a confrontation between the duo.

The suspect, who attributed his action to the handiwork of the devil, said his action was not intentional.The suspect recounted what happened on the fateful day:He said

“Oyinye is the mother of my son, although I did not marry her legally but when she became pregnant for me, I went to her aunty and uncle who she was living with for introduction.We then started living together. But we had a misunderstanding and then she packed out of my house.“On Tuesday morning, Onyinye came to my house, I thought she just came to visit me but I later saw her mood and knew something was wrong. She confronted me with an issue she heard. She said I was spreading rumour about her living a wayward life style and not sleeping at home.‘

’She asked me if I was behind the rumour and I told her yes, that I had noticed it since she left my place.‘’Out of anger, she picked up a bottle, broke it and threatened to deal with me and we began to fight. While we were fighting, I overpowered her and took the broken bottle from her. She rushed again to where the knife was and picked the knife.‘’Out of anger, I collected the knife from her and mistakenly stabbed her in the stomach with the knife, shortly after she died.“After my action, I sat for sometime thinking of what to do, whether to run away or go to the police station to report myself. I then decided to report myself at Tolu Divisional Police Station.

A sister to the deceased who gave her name as Chika, claimed that the issue that led to her sister’s death started since the victim moved back to the family house.

She explained: “When Onyinye moved her things back to the house. I asked her what was wrong, and she said nothing, that she does not want to continue living with Michael.
“Even a week before this incident, when Michael came to visit his son in the family house, immediately he entered, Onyinye walked out of the house. But I was surprised when he called me on Tuesday to inform me that Onyinye is dead and that he was at the police station.‘’I immediately rushed down to the police station to find out if it was true and that was where I heard the whole story.

“What was even more surprising is the fact that on that same day, after the incident, he called one of our neighbours to tell my other sister to bring his son which she did but after sometime, he returned the boy.‘’Maybe he was thinking of running away with his son but God did not give him the courage to do so. All I just desire now is for the police to complete investigation into the matter and let the law deal with him accordingly.”

Exclusive: Why Buhari sacked NNPC board

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday through the Head of Service of the Federation, HoS, Danladi Kifasi sacked the board of the National Petroleum Co-operation, NNPC, with immediate effect.

The Head of Service who in a statement dated June 26, 2015 stated that the President thanked members of the dissolved board for their services to the nation.

Before now, the Senate had on Wednesday June 24, 2015 summoned the leadership of the NNPC to appear before it so as to examine the conditions of the nation’s four refineries.

Investigation revealed that the NNPC has often been seen by President Buhari as the goose that lays the golden egg but allegedly riddled with corruption and oil cabals who had held the nation to ransom.

Buhari who was one time the head of the NNPC during the military era of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had vowed during his 2015 presidential election campaign that he would probe the oil sector.

During the campaigns, he promised to probe the $20 billion alleged to be missing from the coffers of the oil giant by Emir of Kano Muhammed Sanusi, a claim he made when he was the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan sacked him from the CBN for the claim which he considered untrue and embarrassing to his Government because the figures he was reeling out were inconsistent.

Speaking in Yola immediately after the presidential election, Buhari said: “I heard that some people have started refunding money, but I will not believe until I see it.

“His royal highness, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was removed from the Central Bank because he said that about $20 billion was missing, instead of the Government to investigate the matter, they refused, instead they sacked him.

“He has already written a detail report on it, the incoming government will not ignore it, even though we have promised to draw a line, but $20 billion is too big to ignore.

“This is Nigerian money and it must be investigated.”

According to an All Progressives Congress, APC, source, the new administration of Buhari will set the ball rolling by sanitizing the oil sector by sacking and replacing the top management of the Nigeria National Petroleum Commission, NNPC, before restructuring the oil company. Then it will investigate its accounts to restore credibility.

A bill will be drafted to break the NNPC into four entities, as already prescribed in the latest PIB draft. But it will also, crucially, remove the oil Minister from the NNPC’s board of directors to curb political interference.

One APC source also told Reuters that more generally; the petroleum Minister’s current powers would be heavily trimmed.

Oil and gas will have separate companies for upstream, with a third covering pipelines and refining, and a fourth will be an inspectorate.

According to sources that confided on Reuters, the issue of fiscal terms, seen as crucial by the industry, will have to wait on current thinking about oil and gas policies for Africa’s leading producer

Senator Bukola Saraki had on April 16 told Journalists that Buhari would do an overhaul of the oil sector in order to address structural issues.

“A more transparent NNPC is needed with reasonable accounting,” he said.

A string of multibillion dollar oil corruption scandals tainted the NNPC and other bodies that handled the oil sector.

By contrast, Buhari was seen as one of the few Nigerian leaders to have cracked down on corruption during his military rule in 1983-1985.

“The worry is that there’s going to be a lot of time wasted in witch-hunting…That could take a year in which nothing else will happen,” said a source from the oil and gas sector.

APC leader Bola Tinubu, whose support was instrumental in Buhari’s victory and wields huge influence, told Reuters a transitional committee would be set up.

Jonathan’s administration re-drafted a Petroleum Industry Bill , PIB, in 2012 that had been in the works for a decade.

The PIB was meant to change everything from fiscal terms to overhauling the NNPC, environmental rules and revenue sharing, but its comprehensive nature caused disputes between lawmakers.

Yet the main thing the oil companies were worried about was tax. The bill proposes 20 percent tax on offshore projects and 50 percent for onshore. Shell, Exxon and other majors had all complained publicly that the terms are unfair, given the risk associated with operating in Nigeria.

Uncertainty over the fiscal terms of the bill have been holding back billions of dollars of investment, especially into capital-intensive deepwater offshore, leading some to propose the bill be broken up into several pieces debated separately.

“It doesn’t need to be an omnibus, you can take things piecemeal,” one APC source said

FG to send 700 soldiers to Liberia –GOC

Even as the dreaded Boko Haram sect keeps tormenting the North-Eastern part of the country, no fewer than 700 officers and men of the Nigerian Army would depart the country for a peacekeeping operation in Monrovia, Liberia on Monday.

They were, however, warned to abide by the rules of engagement and respect the culture and tradition of the Liberian people during their stay in Liberia.

The General Officer Commanding, One Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Kenneth Osuji, stated this at the graduation of troops at a pre-deployment training held at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji, near Kaduna on Friday.

Osuji was also GOC of the 1 Brigade made up of the Nigerian Battalion 36 in the United Nations Mission in Liberia.

Osuji warned the troops against contracting the dreaded Ebola virus while in Liberia.

He also charged the officers to portray the country in a good light by avoiding any act capable of embarrassing the army.

Osuji said, “Be reminded that the Nigerian Army will not accept any situation where its troops are seen as soft targets or conducting themselves in unprofessional manners like engaging in the trafficking of illicit substances of any kind including alcohol and drugs.

“You must respect the cultural and religious sensitivity of the people of Liberia. You must exhibit the highest sense of personal/environmental hygiene as Liberia is just emerging from an Ebola epidemic.”

The Commandant, Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre, Maj-Gen. Imimitomi Birigeni, had earlier in his speech, said the pre-deployment training which commenced three weeks ago, was intensive and comprehensive in line with the United Nations pre-deployment modules.

Birigeni added that the troops had been trained on the requisite skills to operate under any prevailing conditions.

Tunisia plans within a week to close down 80 mosques that remain outside state control for inciting violence, as a countermeasure after the hotel attack that killed dozens, Prime Minister Habib Essid said on Friday.

The announcement came after a gunman opened fire on a tourist resort hotel in Sousse city, south of the capital. Since its 2011 uprising to oust Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia has struggled to manage ultraconservative Islamist movements.

A gunman disguised as a tourist opened fire at the Imperial Marhaba hotel in Sousse, 140 km (90 miles) south of the capital Tunis with a rifle he had hidden in an umbrella, killing 39 people including Britons, Germans and Belgians as they lounged at the beach in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

Terrified tourists ran for cover after the gunfire and an explosion erupted, before police shot the gunman dead, witnesses and security officials said.

The bodies of several tourists lay crumbled where they fell in the sand, covered with yellow towels and blankets among the plastic white sunbeds. Blood smeared stone steps leading from the hotel main area.

"This was always a safe place but today was horror," said an Irish tourist who gave only his first name, Anthony. "He started on the beach and went to the lobby, killing in cold blood."

The attack took place during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan, on a day in which a decapitated body daubed with Arabic writing was found in France, a suicide bomber killed two dozen people at a mosque in Kuwait and at least 145 civilians were reported killed by Islamic State militants in northern Syria.

In a statement on social media, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the Tunisian attack. It had urged its followers to step up assaults during Ramadan.

Twitter accounts that support Islamic State released three photos they said showed the gunman. A man is seen from behind walking down a street and holding an assault rifle, though his identity and the location are unclear.

"Our brother, the soldier of the Caliphate, Abu Yihya al-Kairouni, reached his target the Imperial hotel despite the security measures," the statement said. It said he had attacked a "bordel" and killed 40 "infidels'.

After pulling out a weapon hidden inside an umbrella, the assailant strolled through the hotel grounds, opening fire left and right at the pool and beach, reloading his weapon several times and tossing an explosive, witnesses said.

A security source said another bomb was found on his body, which lay with a Kalashnikov assault rifle where he was shot.

Rafik Chelli, a senior interior ministry official, said the gunman killed was unknown to authorities and not on any watchlist of potential jihadists. A security source named him as Saifeddine Rezgui, a 23-year-old electrical engineering student.

Local radio said police captured a second gunman, but officials did not immediately confirm the arrest or his role in the attack.

"It was just one attacker," said a hotel worker at the site. "He was a young guy dressed in shorts like he was a tourist himself."

"RUN, RUN, RUN!"

It was the worst attack in Tunisia's modern history and the second major massacre this year following the Islamist militant assault on Tunis Bardo museum when gunmen killed 21 foreign visitors.

A health ministry statement said British, German and Belgian nationals were among the 39 dead. The health minister told French radio 36 others were wounded in the shooting.

At least five British citizens were among the dead, Britain's Foreign Minister Philip Hammond said. Ireland's foreign ministry said at least one Irish citizen was killed.

Tunisia, which has been hailed as a model of democratic transition since its 2011 'Arab Spring' uprising, is one of the most secular countries in the Arab world. Its beach resorts and nightclubs on the Mediterranean are popular with foreigners.

Islamist jihadists have attacked North African tourist sites before, seeing them as legitimate targets because of their open Western lifestyles and tolerance of alcohol.

Irishwoman Elizabeth O'Brien, who was staying at a neighbouring hotel with her two sons, said there was panic on the beach when gunfire erupted.

"I honestly thought it was fireworks and then when I saw people running... I thought, my God, it is shooting," she told Irish radio station RTE. "The waiters and the security on the beach started to say 'Run, run, run!'"

CATASTROPHE

Islamic State made some claim to the Bardo museum attack, but authorities blamed possible splinter fighters from the Okba Ibn Nafaa, a brigade of al Qaeda-affiliated fighters, operating in the Chaambi mountains along the Algerian border.

In Sousse, many tourists were already packing their suitcases into busses and checking out of hotels to leave after the attack.

German tour operator TUI said on Friday it was organising flights for tourists wishing to return from Tunisia and said those who booked Tunisian holidays for this summer could rebook or cancel the trips free of charge.

Sousse, alongside nearby Hammamet and the island of Djerba, is the heartland of Tunisia's most popular beach resorts, drawing visitors from Europe and neighbouring North African countries like Algeria.

Six million tourists, mostly Europeans, visited Tunisia's beaches, desert treks and medina souks last year, providing seven percent of its gross domestic product, most of its foreign currency revenues and more jobs than anything but farming.

"This is a catastrophe for the economy," Tourism Minister Salma Loumi said. "Our losses will be great, but the loss of human life was even greater."

Since its 2011 uprising to oust autocrat Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia has been praised for its peaceful democratic transition bringing free elections and a new constitution seen as a model for the region.

But the country has also struggled with the rise of Islamist movements as ultra-conservative preachers took advantage of the upheaval and young democracy to take over mosques and spread their hardline message.

Several thousand Tunisian jihadists have left the country to fight in Syria, Iraq and neighbouring Libya, where some have set up jihadist training camps and promised to return to attack their homeland.
