A
blackout Monday night at Nigeria’s Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos
forced the diversion of an Emirates Flight EK781, an Airbus A340-500
from Dubai, United Aab Emirates (UAE), to the airport in Lome, Togo.
According
to reports, the aircraft was scheduled to land in Lagos at 7.44pm and
had rolled its tyres out for landing when electricity supply suddenly
went off at the airport. The blackout and heavy rain left the pilot with
no other choice than to abort the landing and head for Lome.
The plane however returned several hours later, making a safe landing at about 11p.m.
There was reportedly a second blackout, after the passengers and crew had disembarked into the airport terminal.
