FAYEMI HARPS ON THE NEED FOR NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has again stressed the need fora national Conference to put an end to the various crises militating against Nigeria as a nation.

Governor Fayemi made the call while receiving officials of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs who paid him a courtesy visit in Ado.

The Commissioner for Integration and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon.Funminiyi Afuye who received the team on behalf of the Governor emphasized the need for a round table Conference that will allow the different ethnics groups in the country express their views andnproffer solution to the numerous problems facing the country.

The Governor reiterated the commitment of his administration to conflict resolution through roundtable discussion for the purpose of genuine peace and unity.

He however advised all stakeholders to always exercise caution and decorum in the pursuit of their perceived rights and vested interest noting that crisis can lead to war if not quickly and properly manage to bring understanding, unity and peace.

Commending the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for efforts at sensitizing the people on conflict prevention, Management, Resolution and Post-conflict Peace-building, Fayemi stressed that development is difficult to achieve in an atmosphere devoid of peace.

Earlier, the Minister for State in Foreign Affairs, Dr Nuruddeen Muhammad who was represented  by the Director of ECOWAS Division AMB Ali Ocheni explained that officials of the Ministry were in the state to organize a Workshop on Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution and Post-Conflict Peace-Building as key to fostering integration, stability and development for stakeholders in the South-Western states.

He enjoined the participants to utilize knowledge gained at the workshop to enhance conflict prevention, peace and harmony in the society.

Participants at the workshop include Youths currently undergoing the mandatory National Youth Service Corp programme, representatives of the Nigeria police, civil societies as well as various government and non-governmental organizations.
