NLC want pay rise for journalists in Nigeria



The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has declare its readiness to support the Nigerian Union of Journalist in NUJ in their quest to ensure that media professionals in the country are well remunerated

 The Oyo state chairman of NLC comrade Bashiru Olanrewaju gave this assurance in his goodwill message to the Journalists during the 2013 Press week of the Oyo state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists   in Ibadan

 Comrade Olanrewaju who spoke through his vice chairman , Comrade Remi Adediji expresses dissatisfaction  at the poor remuneration of the  media professionals in the state  saying “  Journalists in Nigeria  are not been fairly treated  considering the nature of their Job, they deserve to be well paid because they are the one who keep the society going  through their  various functions”

 He however call on leaders of the Union at the National level to link with the NLC with their demands so that they can also join in fighting  for good remuneration

 The chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Gbenga Opadotun   in his welcome address, said the Union decided to celebrated the 2013 press week in a low key because of the incident of August 2nd  in which  lives of some journalists were lost

 He said further that many programme were cancelled due to the mood of the Union, adding that the celebration was just an avenue to appreciate God for successful ending of his 3 years of steering the affairs of the Union.

The national president of NUJ comrade Mohammed Garba in his good will messages also   appealed to Journalist to comply with the directives of the Union to register for Insurance scheme put in place  by the national body of the Union

Mallam Garba who was represented by the  National Secretary of the B Zone of the Union comrade Gbenga Lawal equally tasked media owners to   improve the condition of service of the Journalists in their organizations and tasks  Governor Abiola Ajimobi to fulfilled the promise of tarring the NUJ compound  which he made sometimes ago.

 Representatives of ASUP, SSANU,  NSCDC, CUSTOMS  RATTAWU , Road safety NULGE , NUPENDG  and  many other labour union in their goodwill  congratulated the Union  on the press week and assure of their continuous cooperation with Journalists in the state for harmonious  relationship that will enhance  mutual benefits for the two Union.
