At least three persons were feared dead and many others in critical conditions when armed gunmen in the early hours of Friday attacked two commercial banks and communities in Saminaka, headquarters of Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the gunmen, numbering over 20 and wielding sophisticated guns, stormed into the two banks and adjoining houses and carted away huge sums of money.
The witnesses said the gunmen killed three people suspected to be security guards attached to the banks while there were sounds of explosives throughout the night.
The state commissioner of police, Mr Olufemi Adenaike when contacted, said he was on his way to the scene of the attack to ascertain the level of destruction by the gunmen and therefore could not give details of the number of casualties.
