Chimaroke Iweha who is also the Archbishop of the Methodist Church of Nigeria Abuja Diocese has commended the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara for enlarging the scope of Christian pilgrimage and for the remarkable height pilgrimage has attained in Nigeria.

He gave this commendation during a courtesy visit by the Executive members of the Christian Council of Nigeria (FCT chapter) to the Executive Secretary of NCPC in his office recently in Abuja.

Archbishop Iweha further appreciated the Executive for his giant strides and his contributions to the Christian community in Nigeria. In his Words, “you have initiated and executed so many pilgrimage programmes, we thank the Lord for making it a huge success”.

He appealed to NCPC boss to use his good offices to ensure that the right people are given the opportunity to travel on pilgrimage. He added that, if the right Christians are given the opportunity to travel, they would come back changed and in turn affect our country positively.
In his response, the Executive Secretary thanked the Chairman and members of his team for the love they have shown to the commission. He averred that the Christian faith is facing a lot of challenges, but he encouraged Christians to remain fervent. According to him, “I believe that the light has come for us to shine and very soon our trials would be over”.
The NCPC helmsman intimated his guest that the main aim of the Commission is to make pilgrimage a tool for moral and spiritual transformation. Mr. Opara appealed to them as church leaders to always encourage their members who are financially buoyant to sponsor Christians who are spiritually, rich but materially poor to go on pilgrimage. In his words, “this is the only way we can encourage those who are dedicated to God’s work”.
Mr. Opara intimated that NCPC has broadened its scope and runs pilgrimage all through the year. He added that the Commission has introduced the family Pilgrimage which would be flagged off in July. He explained that the family Pilgrimage is to afford families the opportunity to pray together and by this, our family values which have been lost would be restored.
He affirmed his support for the CCN while assuring them of his willingness to assist them in any way possible.
The Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), is one of the five blocks of CAN made up of the: Anglican Communion, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian and the African Church among orthodox churches in Nigeria.
