Oyo PDP, Accord Party lawmakers pass vote of confidence on Ajimobi

Members of the opposition parties in the Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday x-rayed the administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the last two years and unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the governor for his `brilliant performance’. lawmakers, who are of the Accord Party and Peoples Democratic Party, passed the vote of confidence shortly after listening to the State of the State Address presented to the Assembly by Governor Ajimobi as part of the activities marking the second anniversary of his administration.

The governor had, in his address, reeled out the several achievements of his government in the last two years, attributing it to the doggedness he had brought into governance, his tenacity of purpose as well as the support and cooperation of the lawmakers and the entire people of the state. `

`The acceptance and encouragement you gave me during that first State of the State address became the fillip with which we moulded the even more painstaking and concerted achievements that we have recorded in the last two years,’’ he said. Governor Ajimobi was particularly happy that three different political parties, that is, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party (AP) had worked together in a pleasantly astonishing unity ``that has baffled those prophets of doom who predicted that our House would be a House of Commotion’’.

He said that right from the beginning of his administration, he was not in any doubt about his resolve to make a difference in the day-to-day lives of the people of the state, adding ``our preoccupation was to rewrite our un-enviable position in the annals of history and trumpet to the world that we are a people conscious of our pacesetting heritage’’.

The lawmakers, while commenting on the governor’s address, commended him for his outstanding performance and the uncommon sagacity which he had brought to bear in the running of the affairs of the state. For instance, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan of the Accord Party, described Governor Ajimobi as intelligent, sound, solid, sincere, industrious and accountable.

He particularly acknowledged the harmonious working relationship that had been existing between the executive and legislative arms of government, attributing it to the peaceful atmosphere created by the governor. ``You have, in the last two years, demonstrated that you want us all to work together to move Oyo State forward,’’ the Deputy Speaker said.

The Minority Leader, Hon. Rafiu Adekunle of the PDP, also said that the governor was ``full of virtue, humility, respect and intellect. ``You are performing and we want you to perform more; we are very grateful and happy to work with you.

Those of us in other political parties (aside the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria) cannot see something good and say it is bad; You are doing well and please continue your good work,’’ the lawmaker said. Another Accord Party legislator, Hon. Ibrahim Bolomope, said that the governor had excelled in the areas of security, environmental sanitation, infrastructure and good governance. ``You are interacting very well with the people of the state.

The speed with which you are running, I want you to increase it so that before we get to the fourth year when active politics will come, we would have covered enough ground that would make our opponents to sit and watch. ``Once you are in government, you run government and not partisan politics. All of us are running this government and the captain of the ship is Governor Abiola Ajimobi,’’ the lawmaker stated. A motion to formally passed a vote of confidence on the governor was later moved by Hon. Kehinde Subair, the Deputy Majority Leader and seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Abiodun Adigun Ahmed.
