It was reported that Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa went on his only annual leave as Prime Minister of Nigeria in 1963 and decided to spend the vacation in his village. A British photo journalist came calling and was told the PM was on vacation. "To which country?" he asked, but was shocked to hear it was to his village. On getting to his village, there was no evidence to show that a BIG MAN was there. Everybody was busy with their chores. He met a farmer with his donkey carrying bales of sugarcane for the PM's home and he was shocked when the farmer said " I just left him a while ago. You will see him sitting on bare floor with his kids drinking the sugarcane I gave them".

But Now !
But now , yes then , it was nobility , intelligence ,education , programme ,pedigree and resourcefulness that won elections but now olowolayemo , it is one that dictates who wins an election no matter your level of criminality , jut bribe the judges , get a legal clean shave , throw up some bales of money and you are there . You can even win an election from the prison or while being tried . This is an era if when you are a fool if you gain a political appointment and cannot within a year , a month and a day build another house , buy another car or change the school of your children from Usi High School where they are to one of the best private secondary school in Ijesha or Offa .
Where you need a quantum load of money before you can be able to express your interest on just at the party level for a political post .when election is about how much you can offer not your bright ideas !
Yet we all desire a sane society !
