Mimiko congratulates Adesina
Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has said the emergence of Mr Femi Adesina, the Deputy
Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Company, as president of the
Nigerian Guild of Editors, is one developement that will help deepen
professionalism in the practice of journalism in Nigeria and as well
help strengthen the Guild.
Governor Mimiko in a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press
Secretary, Eni Akinsola said as a core professional, the New President
is properly positioned to make the guild more effective and relevant in
the effort to evolve the Nigeria of our dreams.
"Femi Adesina as the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors will
have to continue the repositioning initiated by Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, the
immediate past president, and as well take new initiatives to close the door
of journalism to quacks and those bent on destroying the image of the
profession.
“With years as a columnist of note behind him, Mr. Adesina has to
quickly rally the guild to find ways to curb quacks and make the
practice of professionalism in journalism an everyday thing in our dear
country. He has come at the right time, with the right experience and
the right character to rally members of the guild around issues that can
help promote good governance and democracy in our country," Mimiko
said.
Expressing the commitment of his Government to the Nigerian project,
Mimiko said he is ready to partner with the Guild and indeed other
organisations interested in pushing Nigeria forward from all angles.
"This country, I must say, is so blessed and is in a position to excel
if we all get ready to work for it. For us in Ondo State we have always
made it clear that we'll support practitioners of journalism to
discharge their lawful duties without let or hindrance," he said.
