The Governor said the gesture is part of his administration's commitment to workers welfare and reposition the public service for effective service delivery.
Mimiko, while presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries, said that the loan will be paid back within the period of fifteen years at 3% interest rate.
The Governor, who assured that his administration would continue to implement a worker friendly and affordable housing loan scheme for the state public service, noted that the morale of workers in the state
was low in 2009 when he came on board due to their inability to access financial assistance from government in their bid to own or build a house of their own.
He added that it was against this backdrop that his administration approved and disbursed the sum of N118 Million in year 2010 and the sum of N50 Million in 2011 as housing loans to workers at a reduced
interest rest rate of three per cent (3%) as against prohibitive interest rates from financial institutions, adding that the loan is made available to all categories of workers from level one to
seventeen (1-17).
According to the Governor, 100% repayment of the loan is being achieved through monthly deductions from the salaries of beneficiaries. He said that this will enhance the opportunity to make it a revolving loan to enable other potential beneficiaries to be covered.
While commending the workers in the state for their cooperation with his administration, the Governor charged them to continue to demonstrate commitment and dedication towards service, promising that
their welfare would continue to be prioritised by his government.
Mimiko however reiterated his administration's resolve never to retrench any worker in the state public service during his tenure in office as the state Governor.
He said that the on-going update of Staff Data Base in the state public service is never intended to witch-hunt or retrench any worker, but it was essentially aimed at evolving a comprehensive data base for
the state public service and aid proper planning for the benefit of the state and the workers.
Earlier in her address, the State Head of Service, Mrs Kosemani Kolawole, appreciated the state government for being worker friendly, saying that since the inception of the present administration, there
had not been any abandoned project in the state.
She disclosed that over One Thousand, Three Hundred and Forty Seven (1,347) civil servants had benefited from the State Government Housing Loan since year 2009 to date.
