Gunmen attack Kaduna police station, kill 2 cops


Gunmen in the early hours of yesterday attacked the Divisional Police Headquarters, Kajuru in Kaduna State, killing two policemen and leaving others with serious gun injuries.  It was gathered that four of the affected policemen were immediately rushed to St. Gerald Catholic Hospital in Kaduna were two were confirmed dead

When Daily Sun reporter visited the hospital, access to the injured victims was not allowed as they were said to be in critical condition and could not talk to journalists.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of St. Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kaduna, Mr. Sunday Ali confirmed to Daily Sun that two people were on treatment at the hospital.

According to him, “four people were brought to the hospital and two are in critical condition. There were two dead among them and the others are still under treatment. They were operated upon and bullets were removed from their bodies.”

He also told our reporter that the Kaduna State governor just visited them at the hospital.
The state Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Aminu Lawan also confirmed the incident, saying “in our divisional headquarters in Kajuru Local Government Area in Kaduna State, there was an attack where two policemen were killed and several other sustained injuries.

He said: “The incident occurred at the midnight when suspected armed robbers came into the town, very close to the divisional headquarters, when they were noticed by some of the patrol team. It eventually led to a battle between the patrol team and the robbers.
“As at now, the number of the suspected robbers had not been confirmed. But in the process of the exchange of gunfire, two policemen lost their lives.”
Meanwhile, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State has condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate and called on security agencies to intensify efforts towards arresting the perpetrators of the crime.
