THE  first ever  African Diaspora World Tourism Award  designed to honour and recognise  trailblazers in black culture and heritage from all over the world will hold in Atlanta Georgia, USA between 26 and 28 April, 2013.
The world event is packaged by AfricanDiasporaTourism.com. an online tourism magazine  dedicated to exploring the culture and heritage of Africans in Diaspora worldwide as well as Africa in relationship to her Diaspora   and AD King Foundation  a non-profit organisation recognising the commitment, contributions and legacy of the late civil right activist and philosopher, Reverend Alfred Daniel King, brother of late Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.
The award is to showcase and appreciate  the service and dedication of leaders from around the world who have significantly impacted in  tourism and inspired the exploration of black culture and heritage sites around the globe.
The awards recognise these leaders in two parts:  “Who’s Who” and  “Hall of Fame” in Black Culture and Heritage Tourism. The “Who’s Who” category recognizes professionals who have done outstanding work in various cultural and tourism  fields. The “Hall of Fame” category is for notables who have made legendary contributions that have significantly impacted black culture and heritage tourism development. These notables and professionals will be further honored with various awards.”
Though, the official African Diaspora World Tourism Awards gala ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA at the Atlanta Airport Marriott, there will also be an evening with Bob Marley’s Grands, featuring a film screening and live reggae music on Wednesday and Thursday as well as an Africana Extravaganza of cultural performances on Friday.  Also , a  Travel Expo will take place on  and Saturday.
According to Kitty Pope, publisher of AfricanDiasporaTourism.com, this  inaugural ceremony  is dedicated to late legendary Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr, a publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, orator and a proponent of Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism. Founder of Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL), with soul aim of  “...unify the world’s people of African ancestry into one great body ‘ which the African Diaspora World Tourism Award is promoting.
She revealed that, the award which is being packaged as the OSCARs of Black Culture and Heritage would be anchored by  Monica Kaufman Pearson, a celebrated Atlanta news anchor who is  the longest-running anchor in the market and  winner of 30 Emmys and the first black and first woman to anchor a 6 p.m. newscast in Atlanta, beating Oprah Winfrey for the position.
Pope revealed that  five distinguished  and notable presenters are billed for the ceremony which include, Dr Julius Garvey, son of Marcus Garvey,  a top Vascular Disease Surgeon, Pan-African Activist;   Donald Brown, celebrated British Sculptor, motivational speaker and creator of the Millennium Movement; Djibril Diallo a  Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of the United Nations on AIDS Task Force (UNAIDS); Dr Gaynelle Henderson-Bailey, founder of the Washington, D.C., based Henderson Travel Service which was originally a branch of the company that her parents, Jake and Freddye Henderson, founded in 1955 and Abdoul Aziz Gueye, Director of the US Atlanta-based Senegal Government Tourist Office, Gueye has increased numbers of tourists from the US to Senegal and helped to build long-standing, multi-faceted partnerships between North America, Senegal, and Africa. A specialist in eco-tourism, and African and Africa Diaspora Tourism with more than thirty years of dedicated leadership in the tourism industry.
