FG justifies action on cabinet's reshuffle

The Federal Government, at the weekend, justified its action on the recent cabinet reshuffle.
The Federal Government, which described the move as relevant to foster productivity and national development, stated that the public service was a major tool to achieving government policies.
Speaking at the 45th Annual Conference of Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths Development,  Dr Tunji Olaopa,  stressed that the removal of some persons in the public service was to “re-tool the public service for greater effectiveness and efficiency.”
In a statement signed by the Assistant Director Press, the permanent secretary stated that the action would further promote good governance in the country.
Dr Olaopa, in his paper entitled: “Reforming The Public Service For Excellence And Ethical Leadership,”  justified the need for reforms as a re-engineering process intended to uplift the age-long role of the service as the engine room for national transformation.
He stressed the need for continued reforms in the service, adding that professionalism and pursuit of excellence should be identified with the public service.
“The service is a pivot for socio-economic growth and development as well as the major tool for the implementation of government policies and programmes in any clime.
“Current effort is directed at entrenching a culture of professionalism, value re-orientation, re-skilling and the installation of a new business model through a paradigm shift from the old bureaucratic tradition to install a new productivity paradigm in the national economy,” he said.
“Professionalism or the pursuit of  excellence should be at the heart of public service values usually associated with the notion ‘doing the right things and doing it right,’ underscoring the necessity for continuing reforms in the service.
