The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has stated the resolve of the party to work with the government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko in building an enviable and prosperous Ondo State.
The party under the Chairmanship of Mr Akin Olowokere made the declaration on Tuesday during a congratulatory visit to Governor Mimiko in his office, in Akure to congratulate him on his victory at the election petition tribunal.
Notable leaders of the party in the State who visited Governor Mimiko included; the Director General of the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation in the October 2012 governorship election, Dr Dare Bada, PDP chieftain, Chief Segun Adegoke, former State Attorney General, Hon. Yemi Alao, former majority leader of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Kunle Agunbiade, Otunba Alex Akinnadeju, Mr Niyi Ogungbuji and Mr Afolabi Ayinuola, with other members of the party in their hundreds.
While receiving them, Governor Mimiko particularly appreciated President Goodluck Jonathan for his fairness and commitment to the enthronement of genuine democracy in the country.
Mimiko, who cited the cases of Edo and Ondo States governorship elections in which the wishes of the people prevailed, noted that President Jonathan had never allowed selfish interest to reign above the interest of the majority in both States where governorship elections were held last year.
The Governor, who described his victory as a vindication of the efforts he had put into governance solely to add values to the living standard of the people, vowed to continue to take decisions that will benefit the majority of the people.
However, he appealed to political leaders to stop playing politics with the security challenges facing the country and offer collective support for the administration of President Jonathan to succeed in its fight against security challenges.
Earlier in an address presented by a leader of PDP in Ondo state, Chief Segun Adegoke, the party pledged its support for the Mimiko administration in its bid to further transform the State.
He said their support for Mimiko was in consonance with the Governor’s invitation to all members of opposition parties to work with him in taking Ondo state to a greater height.
Adegoke said "we have come to pledge our support for the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko in this second term of Ise takun takun and to give our commitment to stand by him in this coming dispensation.
"This pledge is in consonance with the
invitation contained in his acceptance speech after the election, inviting all
opposition parties to join hands with him in a great task of developing Ondo
State" he said.
He added "We have no doubt in our minds that Dr Olusegun Mimiko won that election, it is trite to state that the election was adjudged as free, fair and credible by local and international observers as well as civil society organizations that monitored the election. The tribunal only further confirm the position of our leaders that the election was free and fair and was won by Dr Mimiko without any controversy.”
Adegoke also commended the Justice Andovar Kaka’an-led election petitions tribunal panel for establishing the truth through its comprehensive and non-ambiguous judgement which upheld Mimiko’s re-election as Governor.
