Dubai's 13-year-old boy weighs 105kg

Winners get 2gms of gold per 1kg weight lost

The Dubai Municipality's annual Ramadan initiative, which is underway this year under the theme “Your Child In Gold” has brought under the spotlight shocking weights of children, such as a 13-year-old boy weighting 105kg, and another 13-year-old boy weighting 90kg.

The other excess weights registered were a three-year-old baby girl weighting 23kg, and the most dangerous weight registered was of a two-year-old baby girl weighting 18kg and a five-year-old boy weighting 30kg and another four-year-old boy weighting 30kg.

According to Khalid Bin Zayed, Assistant General Manager of Dubai Municipality for International and Partnership Affairs, the initiative was successful as more than 20,000 children registered so for, and registration ends on Thursday.

“The main aim of this initiative is to help the public in reaching the perfect body weight, and to maintain that weight. This all at the end of the day aim at insuring healthy society.”

He added that the winner in this initiative is the one who succeeds in reducing the highest percentage of his weight within 30 days of the start of this initiative and the family of the child gets 2gms of gold for each 1kg the child lose. And at the end of the initiative, three winners will be chosen in a raffle draw to win gold bars worth Dh20,000 per winner.

“The organizing committee started work in different locations such as Al Mamzar Beach Park, Al Khawaneej Walking Track, Al Safa Park Walking Track, Al Barsha Walking Track, and Zabeel Park Walking Track. And members of the committee take the weight of the children two times, once in the beginning of their registration in the initiative, and the second at the end of the initiative.”

He added that they are also providing parents of the children free consultation on the dangers of their kids being overweight, as well as the healthy eating habits and diet.
