NO PLOT TO IMPEACH ME - OYO ASSEMBLY SPEAKER

THE Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Monsurat Sunmonu, has described as spineless rumour, the story of impeachment plot against her and subsequently, Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Speaking with the Newsmen, on Sunday, against the background of speculated plan to remove her from office, Sunmonu said there was no plot of such nature, “real or imagined” in the House.
This is just as the deputy chief whip of the assembly, Honourable Michael Adeyemo, has said all members of the House, irrespective of party affiliations, are “solidly behind the Speaker and the governor.
“We live as a family. We are friends and none of us has compromised anything. We have the same focus and vision. Why should we fight and over what? What are we going to achieve doing that?
“We are happy about the performance of the governor and we give him our vote of confidence. Some people have been expecting fracas in the assembly since it was inaugurated, but have been disappointed by the camaraderie among us.
“The Minority Leader, Honourable Rafiu Adekunle, who was quoted in the report, has been the one commending the governor every year during the state of the state address.
“I recall that in 2011, he awarded Governor Ajimobi 70 per cent to in terms of performance; the following year, he increased the mark to 75 per cent. I am not sure it is the same lawmaker that will now turn round to criticise the governor and his government. It is not true.
“In Oyo State House of Assembly, we live and relate as family members and that has been the spirit governing our affairs since the inauguration of the seventh Assembly.
“All of us have resolved that progress and development of the state will be our priority and this we have done very well in the last three years in an atmosphere of peace and it will continue that way.
On the issue of her loyalty to the governor, Sunmonu, who was on her way out of the country when she spoke, said “I have to be loyal to him and we are all loyal to him. I have to be loyal to the governor, because we are from the same party and he is performing. I don’t want to be a failure by being disloyal to him.”
