LG Chair Tasks Journalists on Objectivity

The Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Ope Salami has tasked journalists to continue in upholding the ethics of the profession urging them to be objective as expected. 

The council boss gave the advice while speaking with newsmen during a fast breaking (Iftar) on Friday at the residence of Mr. Laide Ladeji who hosted the leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Oyo State council.

Salami who described journalism as a noble profession that requires high level of professional conducts and discipline  frowned at nonchalant attitude of some journalists who go to the press without cross-checking and confirming their stories most especially sensitive ones.

He urged journalists in the state whom he described as partners in progress to continue working hand in hand with other arms of government.

The council boss disclosed that he has been working to better the lot of his people since assumption of office three months ago saying that his administration has succeeded in controlling flood and erosion through channeling to the major canals in the area, construction of culverts and drainage system. 

He said his administration on getting to the office was able to control the problem of flood at Iyanan Community, Idi-Ose and that the one at Bashorun under Bridge will soon be completed. 

He also declared that he has succeeded the construction and commissioning of a modern-day rest room with Borehole for the people of Oni-Dundu area as he promised more people-oriented projects to complement the efforts of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the state in making the state a model among committee of states in the country.

Oladeji while speaking said the gesture is in appreciation of the invaluable roles of the journalists in the society. He urged them to continue in doing their job without fear or favor.

The state chairman of NUJ, Comrade Gbenga Opadotun who disclosed that the Iftar program introduced by his administration three years ago was to promote religion tolerance among members of the union also solicited the support of the council boss and other stakeholders towards the union's 3rd Ramadan lecture and the NEC meeting scheduled to hold in September this year. 

He thanked Oladeji for hosting members of the union for the Iftar.
