Ajimobi approves pension payment for retired Oyo teachers
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has approved the
commencement of pension to retired primary school teachers under the State
Local Government Staff Pension Board with effect from Tuesday, February 19,
2013.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the
Chairman, Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Chief Lasisi
Ayankojo.
The payment according to a release signed by Special Adviser to the governor on Media,Dr Festus Adedayo is expected to cover the pension for the month of
January 2013, while the governor has also approved the monthly payment of the
pension as and when due.
It would be recalled that the over 7,000 affected retirees
who left service from July 2011 till date have not been placed on monthly
pension.
This is due to the massive fraud discovered at the Local Government
Pension Board, a body responsible for the payment of pension allowances to
retired primary school teachers and local government workers.
Already, some of the officials of the board found to have
been involved in the fraudulent activities have been apprehended and handed
over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
According to Chief Ayankojo, the governor has also directed
that the backlog of unpaid pensions and gratuities should be paid as soon as
possible.
Meanwhile, the screening schedule has been drawn for all the
2011/2012 retired teachers, in order to ensure that the exercise is
successfully conducted.
Chief Ayankojo, in the state, expressed the gratitude of all
the beneficiaries to the governor, saying that this would go a long way in
alleviating the sufferings of the retired teachers.
