The Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency,
Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has promised to sponsor more pilgrims for the 2013
Christian Pilgrimage.
He disclosed this recently in his office during the
sensitization visit by the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian
Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara and his Federal Commissioners.
He assured the NCPC helmsman that he would continue to support Christian
Pilgrimage at all times. According to him, “it is the focus and principle that
has made my office of equal standing”.
He further explained that his
administration would continue to enhance and promote good governance so that
any Governor that would take over after him would continue to use the same
template. Governor Al-Makura commended the Executive Secretary for his giant
strides of transforming Christian Pilgrimage in Nigeria, especially the
expansion of Christian Pilgrimage to Rome and Greece as well as his purposeful leadership
in the Commission which he described as “worthy of emulation”.
He urged him to ensure that his wonderful
style of leadership should be emulated by those under him for the sake of
continuity and sustainability of the impactful programmes and legacies of his administration.
Earlier in his remarks, the Executive
Secretary of NCPC, Mr. John Kennedy Opara thanked the Governor of Nasarawa
State for all his support and encouragement given to Christians in the state by
sponsoring 200 pilgrims for the 2012 Christian Pilgrimage exercise. He
commended the Governor for all his other notable achievements especially in the
area of infrastructural development and good governance to the people of Nasarawa
state.
Mr. Opara intimated the Governor that
the theme for this year’s pilgrimage exercise is “Pilgrimage: a tool for moral
and spiritual transformation”. He explained that the goal of the Commission is
to take Christians on pilgrimage to the Holy Land for spiritual transformation
so that they would be morally and spiritually transformed and this would
positively affect the nation at large.
He informed him that Mr. President
would be flagging off the 2013 Christian Pilgrimage exercise on the 28th
October 2013 in Abuja, and would be part of the first batch of intending
pilgrims to Israel. He therefore urged the Governor to be part of the flag off ceremony
in order to support Mr. President.
The NCPC boss also used the opportunity
of the visit to formally present to the no. 1 citizen of Nasarawa State the
package for the 2013 Christian pilgrimage exercise as approved by the
President.
The Executive Secretary was accompanied
on the sensitisation visit to Nasarawa State by the Federal Commissioner
representing North Central, Mrs. Helen Ughoro and other top management staff of
the commission.
