Opposition In Kogi Tasks EFCC, ICPC Over Idris

A coalition of opposition parties in Kogi State has expressed worry that one month after it submitted a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in which it alleged corrupt practices against former Governor of the State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, no action has been taken by the anti graft agencies.

The coalition, comprising mainly of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), expressed disappointment that the two agencies were dragging their feet over the matter.

Leader of the coalition which staged a rally in Abuja, yesterday, to press home its angst, Hon. Dino Melaye, pointed out that the rally was a struggle for the well being of Kogi people.

He expressed shock that one month after the submission of exhibits of properties illegally acquired by the former Governor, the agencies were yet to invite him even to take his statement.

The former lawmaker called on the EFCC to expedite action on the petition failing which the coalition would occupy the its premises and possibly call for the removal of its Chairman.

“We are here, today, to remind the EFCC that the same speed with which it acted on the investigation and prosecution of  former governors Danjuma Goje, Alao Akala, Timipreyi Sylva and  Gbenga Daniel should be applied in the case of Idris,” Melaye said.

He also called for an immediate opening of the case even as he expressed confidence that although the former Governor boasted of pocketing the EFCC and ICPC, “we know that power truly belongs to the people. He is neither above the law nor the country.
