Nicolae Patraucean, 21, was high on heroin, cocaine and cannabis and had been drinking heavily for a day when he visited Rivka Holden, 55, at her home, the Old Bailey was told. He then slit her throat before dismembering and mutilating her body so badly it was not possible to say exactly how she died. She may also have been sexually assaulted, the court heard. Prosecutor Timothy Cray said Ms Holden's car was taken after the attack but the motive for murder was not robbery because there were still large amounts of cash at the flat after the killing. "'We would say it's particularly serious on the grounds of sadism," he told the court. David Spens QC, defending, said Patraucean was not mentally ill but added: "The problem appears to be one that involves the excessive intake of drink and drugs." Patraucean, of Stanmore, North London, admitted murder and was jailed for life. Judge Timothy Pontius, QC, said he should serve at least 25 years before he can be considered for parole. Julian Mann, of the local Kingsbury Synagogue, said Ms Holden was a very warm person. "She would sometimes drop into us for a chat and something to eat," he added. "My wife and I enjoyed talking to her. She also chatted in Hebrew with my son, who is a Rabbi.
